Which is for me... The
Original Cot or The
Mesh Cot?
The Mesh Cot was designed 2" wider with tougher fabric and twist bows at all six locations for military-level reliability. The Mesh Cot fabric sheet is 26" wide compared to 24" for the Original UltraLite Cot and both are 74" long. Two Original Cots will fit side-by-side inside most two-man backpacking tents; where two Mesh Cots are 4" wider and may not fit. Both models deliver 4-1/2" of sleeping depth. The Mesh Cot weighs 3lb 12oz with 6 Twist Bows but can be used with only 4 Bows for a 3lb weight. The Original Cot is 2lb 12oz and will pack down a little smaller because the fabric is less bulky. Both the Original and Mesh cots come with 8 holes along the sides for attaching the Tension Bows. Both can be configured with 4, 5, or 6 Tension Bows. Big guys usually prefer the Mesh Cot with its extra width and durability. Most gals prefer the Original Cot for its softer feel.
The current version of the Mesh Cot has all the bow tubes and black nylon feet packed individually so it packs up small, just like the Original Cot. If you want a really fast assembly that can be done in the dark, you can leave the bow tubes inserted in the round feet when packing up, just dump 12 half-bows into the carry bag. The Mesh Cot fabric is woven with open pores to let water run right through. The fabric on the Original Cot is totally impervious so you could sleep over a mud puddle and nothing will leak through onto your sleeping bag. The breathable mesh fabric keeps your skin dry in hot weather. Rain or spills drain through instantly. Moisture does not soak into either fabric. Both are easy to clean... just blast with a hose and shake dry.

The 26" Wide Mesh Cot delivers 4-1/2" of sleeping depth... more depth than any foam/air mat, but it packs down much smaller than a mat. Use the Mesh Cot outdoors and indoors with great ventilation for no-sweat relaxation. So cool at the beach. Absorbs no water even if submerged. The Mesh Cot packs down to 16 long by 6" diameter to fit on any motorcycle, kayak, or backpack. Sleeping comfort is exceptional because it breathes like your bed at home, unlike all other camp mattresses that are impervious to hold air. For pure miminalist outdoor living, put a rain-proof bivy on top and sleep warm and dry even in a rainstorm. In cold weather put any Therm-a-Rest on top for insulation under your sleeping bag.
